Thabina Nature Reserve, Introduction
Resort type: Eco Lodge & Camping sites
Highlights: Fishing, Mountain Biking
Several clear cool streams tumble from the misty peaks of the Wolkberg Mountains and find their way through pristine grasslands and indigenous forests into the Thabina Dam.
The Wolkberg Wilderness Area is the largest wilderness area open to the general public in South Africa and there are many opportunities to fish (or angle, whatever you wish) hike, climb the hills, canoe on the dam or mountain-bike through the neighbouring countryside. Guides from the nearby community are available to guide visitors to the various places of interest. This is recommended as one may easily get lost in the mountains or indigenous forest. Thabina is accessible by 4×4 vehicles or 4×2 vehicles with a high ground clearance and diff-lock only.
