Makalali Lodge opens camp one after revamp

Aug 20, 2014

African Hotels and Adventures (AHA) has reopened camp one of Makalali Private Game Lodge in the Kruger National Park following flood damage in March.  Camps two and three are scheduled to reopen in September.

Neil Bald, MD of AHA, said while repairing the damage the company also took the opportunity to refurbish the room interiors, wooden decks, pool furniture, the curio shop and a new boma.

Floors and walls of the rooms have been repainted and beds have been replaced with two new three-quarter extra-length beds with hand-crafted headboards and side tables. Mosquito nets have also been replaced and new safes and tea and coffee stations installed. There are new scatter cushions in the bedrooms and bathrooms and sala area.

Bald said that all the sala blinds were made by the local community, who also did a great deal of work in re-establishing the gardens where fresh produce is now picked on a daily basis.

Game-drive vehicles have been equipped with new blankets, ponchos, hot water bottles and cooler boxes.

The lodge’s three camps can accommodate up to 36 people.
