SA Tourism targets growth from Japan

Mar 18, 2015

SA Tourism will continue to build on interest expressed by the Japanese market by activating a new campaign, hosting buyers and media for Indaba 2015, and organising its annual trade workshops in Tokyo and Osaka.

South African Tourism’s office in Japan launched a series of deal-driven campaigns to encourage Japanese travellers to experience South Africa as a leisure destination through offering various tour packages to destinations such as Cape Town, Pilanesberg and Johannesburg.

To promote the tour packages, a series of special feature articles with key itineraries that can be experienced with the packages were posted on one of Japan’s major tour booking portals, TravelCo, as well as on SA Tourism’s localised website in Japan.

Since the launch of the campaign, the number of searches made for tour packages to South Africa on TravelCo has been showing significant growth in spite of the negative impact made by the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. Between July 2014 and February 2015, a growth rate of 66.6% was recorded compared with the same period a year ago, underlining growing interest from the Japanese market.
