Dash For CashTzaneen-On the 17th June 2011, the CEO of Limpopo Tourism and Parks, Mr. Rob Tooley officiated during the official opening of the annual Letaba Dash for Cash Fishing Competition to be held at Tzaneen Dam. Tooley acknowledged the importance of the competition and wished all the participants well in the competition to be held over the next two days, the 18th and 19th June 2011. “We, as Limpopo Tourism and Parks, through our commercial wing, Limpopo Wildlife Resorts (LWR), have sponsored the competition with R40 000 to create awareness to the general public about our facility, Tzaneen Dam, as a place to visit for leisure and sport”, emphasized Tooley.


A total of fifty three (53) teams had registered for the competition, which according to the organisers is lower than what they anticipated because they annually register between 70 and 100 teams. The Deputy Chairperson of Letaba Bass Masters, Mr. Allan Kenny, stated that they were very disappointed by the dwindling numbers but were not discouraged to forge ahead and hoped that participants would do well. “We are further encouraged by our partnership with Limpopo Wildlife Resorts, who have sponsored the winner with R40 000.

This will encourage our participants and we hope our partnership will go a long way in encouraging other fishers from other races to be part of this initiative”, said Kenny. According to Kenny, money raised from gate-takings and registration will be will be channeled towards fishing development in the province.  every boat was registered with R1 000.00 to participate in the fishing competition, while the entrance fee by every car at the gate was R12.00 per vehicle.

During the prize giving ceremony, the CEO of Limpopo Tourism and Parks, Mr. Rob Tooley, thanked everybody for making the competition a success. He also stressed the fact that the LTP has a number tourism products under its management including dams and resorts where fishers could camp and also book accommodation. Those include Schuinsdraai at Flag Boshielo Dam, Doorndraai Dam, Mokolo Dam, Shonalanga next to Olifants River, to mention just a few. “We are doing this in line with our tourism marketing strategy to emphasise domestic tourism as our province is the fifth most visited province in the country and we should improve on that”, emphasized Tooley.  Mr. Tooley further congratulated the winners and stressed the importance of the bass fishing competition spreading to other people as well.
