Limpopo Tourism Agency Leverages On Meetings Africa 2014

Feb 25, 2014

The Acting Chief Provincial Conventions Bureau of Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), Ms. Seipati Tlaka, will lead a delegation to another African Mega gathering to participate in Meetings Africa 2014 billed to take place from the 24 -26 February 2014 at the Sandton Conventions Centre, in Johannesburg. Provincial Conventions Bureau is a newly formed division of LTA focusing on business events and meetings.

Meetings Africa 2014 will kick off with the annual BOND Day (Business Opportunity Networking Day) on Monday, 24 February 2014. BOND Day is designed to provide educational and networking opportunities for the South African business events industry. The day will start with the Event Greening Forum’s 2014 Conference at Meetings Africa. This half-day event will be packed with information on Responsible Tourism, with a specific focus on business events.

The event will be attended by over 800 local and regional corporate buyers (ABSA, Liberty Life, Discovery, etc.) and 40 of USB’s top speakers - of which 20 are leading global presenters. All the corporate buyers will be part of the Meetings Africa diary system which, will allow exhibitors to schedule one-on-one meetings with the buyers.

What is new on this day is the media panel discussion which will be moderated by renowned political commentator, Justice Malala. The panel discussion will bring together leading figures from the continent’s business events industry, to discuss amongst others, the impact of business events on the economy of the continent.

The acting CEO of LTA, Mr. Hlungwani, is confident that this year’s event will bring in more benefits to South Africa in General and Limpopo Province in particular as the province will be allocated at least 20 hosted buyers from the total number of hosted buyers coming to this mega event. this will take place on 27 February 2014. “We are very delighted that our province will also get a share of buyers who will be given a feel of what this province can offer in terms of Tourism as most of the times preference is given to some coastal and bigger provinces in the tourism sector.

It is my belief that these 20 hosted buyers coming to the province will want to bring more of their Mega international events to South Africa and Limpopo in particular. I really don’t have any regrets for establishing a new division as an Agency that deals with the bidding of Mega events that mostly get bided for and won by so-called bigger provinces. I really belief that we are one country and all provinces have their unique offerings which instead of competing they should complement one another.”

On 27 February 2014, the group will arrive in Polokwane at Polokwane international Airport and will be welcomed by the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Cllr. Freddy Greaver at the Airport. From there, they will be taken to the Ranch/Protea Hotel (Resort) for lunch, which will be followed by the site inspection and Lion encounter. The group will then depart to Karibu Holiday Resort in Tzaneen for site inspection and overnight. The following day, the group will have breakfast and then depart to Magoebaskloof to participate in the Canopy Tours followed by a short stop at Debengeni Waterfalls.

The delegation will then depart to Legend Lodges at Entabeni Private Game Reserve for another site inspection followed by a game drive. “This will be extended into a seldom seen of the nocturnal spices through a torch light. This is where LTA will sponsor a farewell dinner under the fig tree whereby we will showcase our cultural heritage of the Pedi and Venda groups that will render items. On the 1st March 2014, the group will be taken on a tour of various lodges of Entabeni and this will culminate in a 5 minutes helicopter flip over Entabeni’s lower escarpment. After lunch the delegation will then leave.

The Media panel discussion takes place on Tuesday, 25 February and is open to all journalists. Seating is, however, limited so media that want to attend this event are advised to apply for Meetings Africa 2014 media accreditation.
