LTA Performs Well During The Festive Periods

Jan 7, 2014

Limpopo Tourism Agency is pleased with the festive statistics received dating from the 1st December 2013 -  5th January 2014, Limpopo Wildlife Resorts has recorded a total of  over 53 260 people who went through our gates during this period. We are very pleased and satisfied with the numbers given the unfavorable economic conditions, upgrades and closure of some of the Resorts as a result of floods and aging infrastructure that we experienced in the past year.
The occupancy rate statistics serves as baseline for tourist’s arrivals in Limpopo Province during the 2013 festive season.

The province has recorded an increase of tourists arrivals from 62% in 2012 to 64% in 2013. The percentage of the occupancy rate was provided by the selected tourism accommodation establishments in the province as the departure point for the Tourist Growth Path of the Organizational Marketing Strategy.

On the 20th December 2013, as planned and promised, Mphephu Resort re-opened for business after closing down due to floods in 2013. On Christmas day, the resort welcomed 5 510  people who went through their gates, however our best performing resort for the day was Nwanedi which welcomed over 6 143 people. Day visits are still very popular amongst our people; the majority of people who visited our LWR Resorts were day visitors.
Kruger National Park performed very as the entity continues to lead in respect of dorves of people who visit the province every festive season. The park experienced high volumes of tourists during this period as about 19 271 people went through the Phalaborwa gate, 20 799 through the Punda Maria gate and 1 585 through the Phafuri gate.
Depending on individual needs, other popular destinations included Klein Kariba, Mapungubwe and Marakele National Parks; Legend Golf Safari Lodge, Protea The Ranch, Doorndraai Dam. Shonalanga, Rust de Winter, Forever Resort Tshipise and Warmbaths

Beitbrige was announced by the Department of Home Affairs as one of the top ten ports of entry which recorded the highest numbers of traveler movements along with OR Tambo International Airport, Lebombo, Maseru Bridge, Ficksburg, Oshoek, Cape Town International Airport, Kopfontein, Ramatlabama and Golela.

The focus now shifts to the upcoming CHAN2014 African Football Tournament which will be hosted from the 11th January – 1st February 2014. Limpopo Tourism Agency will be partnering with the Polokwane Municipality to ensure the successful hosting of this tournament; this will be in line with our Domestic Umbrella Marketing Campaign under the “Play with us” segment which promotes Sports Tourism in the Province.  We have no doubt that the hosting of this soccer tournament will definitely boost and lift the Sports Tourism profile of our Province. We would like to urge all fans, potential tourists and the teams to take advantage of favorable and affordable tour package available during this tournament.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Tourism industry to assure those that will be coming to our beautiful Province for the CAF African Nations Championship that they will receive our Limpopo warm welcome. The industry has confidence in our capable infrastructure, capacity and personnel that will be deployed during this tournament; this was brilliantly displayed during the 2010 Soccer World Cup Tournament.
