Limpopo Fully Geared For The Tourism Indaba.

Apr 25, 2014

LIMPOPO; POLOKWANE:  It's that time of the year again when the tourism industry prepares for the biggest tourism spectacle on the African continent, the 2014 TOURISM INDABA, billed to take place at Durban ICC and DEC in Kwa-Zulu Natal Province from the 10th -12th May 2014. INDABA is the biggest Travel and Trade show in Africa and one of the top 3 must-attend events of its own kind. The show attracts well over 13000 delegates from the travel, tourism and related industries. The TOURISM INDABA is a very important and significant platform whereby tourism destinations showcase what they have to offer as far as tourism is concerned.

"Our focus this year will be on special interest features that the Province has to offer to tourists. Some of the special interest features include: Golf and Safari, Trans Frontier Parks, Birding, Cycling and other adventure activities to mention but a few", said the Acting CEO of LTA Ms. Seipati Tlaka.

LTA's participation this year at INDABA will be on a small scale. This is as a result of the ever escalating marketing costs. This thus calls for us as the LTA including the tourism industry to review and to reprioritize our marketing budget. This also calls for a strong Public Private Partnership among all stakeholders participating.

As a result of these challenges, LTA's focus will be on supporting the SMME Sector. These are new entrants into the market, who are on the LTA's 3 year SMME mentorship program. They were invited to participate and confirmation was done on a first-come, first-served basis and applications have closed.  In line with our strategy, the Agency works closely with District and Local Municipalities who participate at Indaba.  To this end, participating municipalities will accommodate some SMME's within their districts or localities that the Agency could not accommodate on its stand, to which they agreed without hesitation.

In conclusion, the Agency would like to thank participating Municipalities and the tourism Industry for their cooperation and understanding. It is with such great support that we can manage to make Limpopo a better and memorable destination, which will be instilled in tourists' minds for decades to come.
