GAUTENG, VANDERBIJLPARK: Six (6) of Limpopo’s leading tourism establishments participated in the Tsogo Sun Book-a-Guesthouse annual conference which culminated in the Awards ceremony at Vanderbijlpark last week Friday. The theme for this year’s completion was “beyond business”. Limpopo was represented by six (6) products, namely, Masana Lodge, Masai Lodge, Ledimor Guest House, Dinoko Lodge, Zanami Lodge and @peace Guest House.

Book-a-Guesthouse was started by Tsogo Sun’s hotel division as a pilot project in Soweto that assisted six Guesthouse owners who displayed the potential to become successful entrepreneurs. The Department of Tourism saw value in the program from the beginning when it was initially launched by the Minister of Tourism, Marthinus Van Schalkwyk, in 2005.

In the last 7 years the program has grown substantially both in the number of beneficiaries that it supports and the nature of support that it provides to them. Today the program is a recognised contributor towards the development of entrepreneur in the tourism sector with its primary area of focus being the empowerment of black women who represent 92 % (8 % are black men) of the membership as well a development of their business.

LTA Acting CEO Ms Seipati Tlaka took the opportunity to thank all participating tourism products participated in the program and the fruitful conference; she went on further to say, “It is through such competitions and conferences that product owners sharpen their skills and knowledge in the hospitality industry”

The competition took place against the backdrop of our Province’s fruitful and impactful participation in the annual Tourism Indaba travel and tradeshow, which is another important platform for our tourism product owners to showcase what Limpopo has to offer as far as tourism is concerned.

“We also wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Ms. Ledile Mashiloane of Ledimor Guest House and Ms. Gloria Mutombodzi of Zanami Guest House for both receiving certificates of graduation on the Tsogo Sun Alumni,” said Tlaka.
