Jul 22, 2014
Thohoyandou; Acacia Park, a resort managed by Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) located at Thohoyandou in the Vhembe District, got burnt on Friday the 19th July 2014. The fire broke down from one of the bushy areas surrounding the resort and was so strong due to the wind that it over powered the fire fighters from Thulamela Municipality. The cause of the fire outbreak is not known. The Acting Manager of the park, Mr. Khathu Nebaimoro reported that the gate and the reception area including his office from which nothing could be saved.
The Acting CEO of LTA, Ms. Seipati Tlaka, said, “It is sad as this happens just against the backdrop of a successful launch of the Reserve Renewal Project that took place on 11 July 2014 at Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve outside Tzaneen. We are heartened by the fact that there are no casualties reported during this tragedy. Our staff is still working hard to assess the extent of the damage caused by this fire.”
LTA sees this as a huge regression as Acacia Park was not on the list of the resorts to be renewed given its acceptable condition, but this means that LTA management will have to reconsider its plans for this resort to be included for renovations.
